| Bio: | K. lives in the Garden state and works for Amalgamated Language, Inc., a reference publisher whose real name she is not at liberty to divulge, mostly because that means she can't write about them. But she does write about language. And dictionaries. K's hobbies include languages (living, faltering, and dead -- 12 at last count), hiking, knitting, writing, cooking, and chasing her kids around. She's a native Coloradan, and though you can take the girl out of the country, you can't take the country out of the girl nor get her to stop speaking in some backwards Western drawl when she gets tired. She's an avid coffee drinker and revisits her Finnish roots during Christmas by making a braided bread called nisua (pulla to you suomalainen) and eating pickled herring with sour cream on RyKrisp. K. gets Garrison Keillor jokes about Midwestern Scandinavian Lutherans. She knows how to properly pronounce "sauna." K. likes to eat and is an adventerous diner, having once eaten goat in Reynosa, Mexico (stringy, with a taste that approximates the way a goat smells), rattlesnake (chewy and tasteless, though connoisseurs call it "delicate"), venison (K. is suspicious of any kind of meat that has to sit and partially rot in order to be edible), buffalo (like beef only more so), sushi (sushi is just a delivery system for wasabi), and moose (Bullwinkle burgers are so-so). K. wants you to know that she owns all the tools in her house as well as all the cooking equipment. For that matter, K. would also like you to know that A&E's "Pride and Prejudice" is way better than the version from the '40s, take her word for it. She can say "I hate Astroturf" and "How much wood can a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood" in Latin. One of her main goals in life is to embarrass her daughters in department stores the way her mother embarrassed her. | |||||
